I haven’t reported on Marina lately and I’m a little overdue. She has been wearing her luau lei for some time now since she got over that short scrape with modesty. I’m glad she got over that! Now that the Luau has come and gone maybe she’ll change attire.
Anyhow I’m pleased to report that she has found work. She got herself a gig with The Garden Club advertising the Ice Cream Social. She did a hellava job too. I moseyed down to Community Center for my annual ice cream and cake and a glimpse at the new Nellie the Lighthouse Cat costume. I was late for Nellie but the joint was jumping. SRO and everyone was fat and happy.
Good job Marina!
Wonder where the bunnies went?

This is where!
A feral black cat has been ravaging the Harbour Village marsh bunny population for about a year now. I was riding my bike across the HV Marina walkway checking on the SS Cougar and a friend pulled me over and said “Do you want to see why there are no more bunnies.” He pointed into these very bushes and said “That’s why.” There it was. I got the feeling it was wondering how many meals it could get out of us. I have two witnesses who have seen the cat committing these heinous crimes.
But cats gotta eat. It would be better if it ate snakes and spiders. Just certain ones, of course. It is a moral dilemma. So,
I consulted no less than the Turtle Lady herself. She thought deeply and said “Well the bunnies are indigenous and the cat’s not”. So the cat has got to go. Should I shoot it? (Which would be rather difficult since I don’t have a gun.) “No! says she. The Town of Ponce Inlet has a Animal Control Officer who is sworn to uphold the natural balance of things and to protect indigenous species. Also, the ex-Turtle Princess now the “Cat Lady” has traps and has dedicated her life to trapping and befriending feral cats and finding them homes that will feed them things other than wascally wabbits.
Good luck guys and gals.
Update on Clean Eating
I was wading through the Glycemic Index the other day and noticed that hummus was only 6 on the scale. That is very low considering anything below 55 is supposed to be good. So I went to Publix and bought some garbanzo beans and to the new Hospice Thrift Shop where the Party Store used to be and bought a crock pot. The new shop is where Hal buys these beautiful expensive shirts for a dollar. 80 cents on Wednesday because everything is 20% off. My crock pot was $8 a little over the yard sale average of $5 but appliances were half off that day off so I got it for $4 because their definition of appliance is anything with a plug.
Well I made this beautiful hummus but hummus is pretty high in carbs even if they are good carbs and I have a bit of a weight problem so I needed to transform it into something less fattening. Bingo! I found hummus dressing on google. It calls for 3/4 c hummus, 5 T extra virgin olive oil, 3 T lemon juice, salt and pepper. It needed a little something and I added 1/3 t of honey and 1 1/2 T of red wine/pomegranate vinegar. This all went through the Ninja. PERFECTO!

Obsessed with Pickles
Published by admin, under Uncategorized. No Comments.
Go say goodbye. (until next time)
Hi folks:
I just talked to my brother Charlie and he told me not to worry that it is quite normal to have an overpowering love of pickles. He likes pickles so much he has his own yodeling pickle and that his grandchildren say it’s their favorite thing about visiting him. So love of pickles is a big thing in our family. He is even sending me, at no charge, a jar of pickled Maine fiddlehead ferns. He went on to say that the Town of Danverscotta Maine has a “Pickle Palooza Festival in the Fall. They tried to get him and his yodeling Pickle to come but they had a previous engagement. (I ran yodelling through spellcheck and it insisted there is only one L.) I guess they need a spelling pickle next.
As for my other alleged obsession, I have had overwhelming response to continue send out updates on the Village
Mermaid, Marina. The picture below is the result of a drive-by shooting. I am not sure if this outfit represents a holiday or not. Perhaps she has just been invited to a Luau.

Easter With Marina
Published by admin, under Uncategorized. No Comments.
A prominent local citizen suggested that I was obsessed with Marina. I must admit that she is probably right. On that note I promise that future offerings will not contain all sorts of pictures and comments about our gorgeous Mermaid Marina. After today.
As you can see, some kind sole gave Marina an Easter Bunny. It's acts of generosity like this that gives me faith in humankind and that people are basically good. It's also reassuring to know that I am not the only one obsessed with her.
We have been talking about clean eating of late and I wanted to share a technique I've adopted that may appeal to you. Last week I shared Dano's pickle recipe with you at Sandy W's behest and it rekindled my fondness for various pickled foods. A few years ago a good friend of mine and I went to South Beach for a convention she was attending and starring in. She turned me on to Wolfie's Rascal House which (unfortunately) was a New York Style Jewish Deli. They had the best darn pickles I ever tasted. I bought a gallon of them and when they were gone pickled more cukes in their pickle juice. I kept doing that until the juice lost it's zip. Then I tried recreating their recipe and hit pretty close. Now I don't just pickle cukes but a variety of fresh veggies and beans.
Everybody likes different pickles, of course. The ones I like are less vinegary and more briny. You may want more garlic and dill or whatever, This mixture is apple cider vinegar, salt, water, and turmeric. Also thinly sliced onions, beans, (I think those were black beans) and green beans.
It make a great snack, it's always ready and won't spoil. Dr. Oz would be pleased especially with the turmeric for Alzheimer's and Arthritis and the ACV for whatever else ails you.
ENJOY!
